Benefits of Omega 3 Supplements

Essential nutrients to the body, Omega 3 fatty acids have to be found and produced outside the body, generally in the form of food. You should generally balance Omega 3 with Omega 6, because they offset each other’s benefits and promote better health together. You should use somewhere between the same amount all the way up to 4 times the amount of Omega 6 fatty acids as opposed to Omega 3’s. Most American diets consist of 11 to 30 times more Omega 6 fatty acids than Omega 3 fatty acids, leading to a severe imbalance. Some scientists believe this is responsible for the growing health problems in America. So you really don’t need to focus on eating Omega 6’s, but rather bringing your Omega 3 intake up to meet it.

Though the most popular food known to have Omega 3 is salmon, you can also find it in flax oil, flax seeds, hemp oil, rapeseed oil, pumpkin seeds, walnut oil, walnuts, oily fish, dark green vegetables, seaweed, broccoli, spinach, and kale. But hemp oil provides the best balance of Omega 6 and Omega 3 at 6:3.

Omega 3 has not been connected so directly to weight loss as to better health which can be connected to weight loss. Many overweight individuals suffer from diseases such as poor blood sugar control, diabetes, high cholesterol, heart diseases, stroke, etc. Healthy diet and exercise plans in general help. But if you follow a weight loss program that includes foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids, you are more likely to gain better control over your blood sugar levels, which can be elemental to appetite control among other things.

However, most of Omega-3’s benefits have been connected to general health. For example, those who follow a Mediterranean diet or Inuit Eskimo type diet suffer from lower incidence of high cholesterol. Second, several studies have shown that omega 3 fatty acids can significantly lower blood pressure in those with hypertension. All of this can contribute to a lower incidence of heart attack and stroke, and due to the element of blood sugar regulation, Omega-3’s can help you to prevent some of the harsher effects of diabetes. Some studies have also suggested that Omega 3’s can reduce arthritis, osteoporosis, depression, burns, skin disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases, asthma, macular degeneration, and menstrual pain, among others.

Omega 3 will not be that miracle weight loss or health product that you have been searching the world over for. You have to do your part. But when combined with an otherwise healthy diet and exercise plan or rather when added as a part of said plans, Omega 3 can be extremely healthy to the systems and life in general.
