Hydroxycut
Many people seem to take their weight loss methods to extremes. They will try things like plastic surgery, permanently altering their bodies to look thinner; crash diets, like the one Beyonce tried for her role in the film Dreamgirls, where you consume only 60 calories a day for two weeks; and even resorting to eating disorders, like anorexia or bulimia.
Some people try weight loss pills, such as Hydroxycut. While some weight loss pills really are beneficial and do not harm your body in any way, Hydroxycut has been surrounded by controversy for a long time now.
But why? Does it work? Let’s find out.
What is Hydroxycut?
Hydroxycut is a large line of products that has been around since the ephedrine era. That’s where they really made a name for themselves, using ephedrine and using TV commercials to sell their product, two major signs of a bad product.
Most have never recovered from this era and barely float along, and frankly, TV commercials are a way to avoid accountability to the consumer or questions. But you have to ask, has the new Hydroxycut formulation actually changed? Have they truly changed their face and their heart?
How does Hydroxycut work?
If you haven’t read elsewhere, Hydroxycut products were recalled as of May 1, 2009. There were previous reports within the past 7 years of heart attacks, stroke, seizures, renal failure, severe liver damage, jaundice, and extreme skeletal breakdown in some individuals.
Some incidences have no doubt gone unreported, because liver problems for example are more often associated with alcohol abuse among other things. But there have still been multiple reports, and after a death in 2007, which was reported to the FDA in March of 2009, it only added to the growing concern over these products.
To their credit, Iovate made a voluntary recall. But at the same point, they don’t know exactly which products, ingredients, etc. are to blame. And they only recalled their prodcuts to beat the FDA to the punch.
They don’t even know for sure if Hydroxycut listed the ingredient that is to blame. All these things remain to be seen.
Overall Conclusion
We would not recommend using Hydroxycut products. Yes, some have been reintroduced. In some cases, they’ve created entirely new formulations and products.
However, the fact remains that obviously they never learned their lesson concerning dangerous substances or real results. Their new formulas are for the most part made of fruits according to ingredients lists, which do not promote wieght loss.
There are many other products that actually can help you in your attempts to lose weight–ones that have never killed anyone. We strongly recommend that you seek those out rather than Hydroxycut.
