The Flat Belly Solution
The Flat Belly Solution is a book that is written by Isabel De Los Rios and is supposed to help you understand your own metabolism so that you can learn how you lose weight.
Pros
Although the subtitle for this book is “stop dieting, start eating, and start living!” the theory behind the Flat Belly Solution is surprisingly based on the idea that weight loss only comes with lifestyle change.
Any weight loss program that tries to tell you that losing weight isn’t going to be about adopting new and healthier habits is either not going to help you lose weight, or you won’t be able to keep the weight off that you have lost.
Cons
Unfortunately, we don’t have much else good to say about this program. It is based on the idea that by finding out your “metabolic type” you will then be able to find out which foods and exercises work best for you, allowing you to lose weight without following any strict guidelines.
However, the theory of metabolic typing has long since been debunked. Originally developed in 1960 by William Donald Kelley, a dentist, this theory only enjoyed a few years as a valid weight loss option.
Despite its original popularity, metabolic typing was discovered to be a flawed system in the 1970s when even the most sophisticated tests, involving blood and urine samples, were shown to be unreliable and inconsistent.
It was not long after this that Kelley was convicted of practicing medicine without a license and lost all his medical credibility.
Even though it’s been over fifty years since the theory of metabolic typing was born, there has still not been a successful way to decipher someone’s individual metabolic processes.
Our Opinion
Because the Flat Belly Solution’s entire functionality depends on whether or not Isabel De Los Rios can, indeed, determine your metabolic type, we don’t trust it.
Metabolic typing has proven itself to be a very unreliable art and the book is, at very best, full of vague recommendations to eat healthy and exercise regularly.
