Acomplia
Accomplia, otherwise known as Rimonabant, has been pitched as a double hitter. It is said to decrease weight as well as to fight common addictions such as smoking. It blocks cannabinoid receptors in the brain, which are believed to be able to control a person's dependence on outside objects such as food and cigarettes.
The Good:A product like Accomplia can be highly appealing to the smoker afraid of the weight gain that often comes with quitting. It works with signals in the brain, which can also be appealing to some individuals of scientific mindset. It is available in over 40 countries, and it received approval from the European Union in June of 2006. In addition, the manufacturing company, Sanofi-Aventis, has been known for creating other prescription medications such as allegro, ambient, and actonel.
The Bad: While efficiency is at the top of the average American's list, Accomplia has not actually been proven to promote weight loss. They seem to have scooped too much onto their plate at this time. Potential side effects also include vomiting, nausea, hypertension, hallucinations, insomnia, fatigue, dizziness, and depression. Some patients even reported symptoms of psychosis when taking this drug, and one trial patient committed suicide. One patient who survived named Carol reported feeling nauseous, depressed, having extreme nightmares, and losing relationships with loved ones due to these problems. She has been on anti-psychotics for a year now, and the 20 pounds she lost came back within 3 months. The results of the trial Carol participated in were never officially released by the makers of Accomplia. Incidences like this may have contributed to the FDA's decision to vote against the approval of Accomplia in 2007 and future votes against FDA approval.
The Skinny Accomplia looks like a promising double hitter at first glance. However, upon closer inspection, one discovers a number of disquieting realities about its side effects among other things. Because of those, though it is available in over 40 countries, the United States is not one of them. For anybody looking to get it while visiting Europe, I would not advise it due to the attached risks.
